So even if the wax bubbles had floated correctly (which they did not) I wouldn't have been able to see anything other than dark shadows moving through the liquid. I contacted the seller and they sent a replacement for free and said they would inspect it before shipping it to me...when the replacement arrived it had the same problem as the first one. Schaefer "lamp guy" I got eight0 Lava lite motion lamps and this one. This one is the most fun to watch. It might be because the glass cylinder is more like a tube or it may be the wax. This one works really like the ones from the 70's that I remember as a kid. It arrived a bit foggy but it cleared up completely after just one cycle. I have only seen lava lamps in movies, and they appear to be somewhat different technology, this is a "wax" lamp, and the net effect is that it is very cohesive, ie prone to forming spheres at various heights in the capsule, not much in the way of ambient shapes/forms. It is cool, it is simple, and it is relatively cheap ($20ish). I am glad I took the plunge. See all 6 customer reviews on Amazon.com
