I'm looking at my second consecutive opaque red lava lamp as I type this. There's almost certainly some wax melting in there, but it's not as though I can see it. Lava lamps being cloudy right out of the box is an either/or thing, so if you get lucky and the "clear" liquid is even remotely clear, I'm sure it's a fine lamp. LaPedis "World Traveller" I ordered one black/clear and one orange/clear Lava Lite. The liquid was foggy, almost milky. I tried running them to see if that would solve the problem and it didn't so off they went back to Amazon for replacement. The replacements were also foggy. I called Lava Lite and was told that if the weather is hot when the lamp is in transit, the temperature inside the truck can be much hotter and the wax can melt. If it does, and the truck shakes the bottle, the ingredients get mixed, causing a cloudy lamp. The problem is worse in lamps with clear liquid. There is only one bad thing about this and that is that the liquid is not clear at all. It's not clear/red it's red/red.
