 Best flashlight for the money! Sep 03, 2010
This flashlight functions very nicely as a lamp and as a nightlight. It is comfortably portable, and it weighted base--thanks to the location of the batteries--provides stability. Even at twice its price, it is still a bargain--particularly for those who live in areas that are subject to hurricanes and any storms that may cause a temporary light outage. It is great for those who like to read in bed without disturbing their spouses.

 Inadequate as reading lamp Jun 27, 2010
I thought from the picture that this would be ideal as a reading lamp during power outages (which are frequent here). I certainly did not expect it to provide the type of light that a desk lamp provides, but I expected to set it on a chair-side table and use it for reading for limited periods of time. Unfortunately, the neck is so short that there is no way to angle it correctly for reading unless it is placed on a tall table beside the chair. A long goose-neck support would be much more useful. On the plus side, it is stable and does not fall over easily.

It works well for places where you need temporary extra lighting, such as doing a project on the dining room table. It also is better than candles or flashlights when the electricity goes off. It stands up well securely and is very bright. In fact, LED lights are a little too bright so I try to keep lens away from my eyes. Definitely good value.

I bought this for reading during power blackouts. All the 5-star reviews indicated that this wouldn't be an unusual use. And it does have a base that keeps it steady. But the light output, even with all 20 LEDs going, is something less than a 2-DCell flashlight. That doesn't do it for me.
